The Talisman, Newport

At one time known as the Isca Inn but renamed the Talisman in 1961.  A locals friendly public house with a relatively small bar but premises does have an upstairs function room along with a further three floors for accommodation. 

It was nearly completely destroyed by fire in November 1949 and it was the rapid response of the Fire Brigade which saved the Talisman from total destruction. 

The Potters Arms, Newport

The Potters Arms has close links with the restaurant of the same name next door.  It stands on the site of the old Friars Pump and was fined a £1.00 in 1876 for permitting gaming and skittles. 
At one time it belonged to the Anglo Bavarian Company but in 1921 the freehold was bought by Mrs G.A. Jones who went on to have a long association with the Potters.  Her son refurbished the premises in the late 1940s

The Greyhound, Newport

Situated in the centre of Newport and can be entered from the high street or from Cambrian road.  Dating back to at least 1848.  It was totally revamped in 1969 and in June of that year it was the Alderman F. Kemp who drew the first pint in the new inn.

Ye Olde Murenger House, Newport

Located on the High Street in Newport and dating back to the 1530s.  Timber framed Tudor building and probably Newport’s oldest public house.

A Samuel Smith establishment and serving real ale. 

Selection of books can be read on the premises and a variety of games.

The Ridgeway, Newport

The Ridgeway was opended on December 1st 1966 by Mrs Leslie Pardoe, the Mayoress of Newport.  Sir Harry Llewellyn, Chairman of the Rhymney Breweries Board pulled the first pint.

Spacious pub with rugby memorabilia on walls namely Newport RFC and Wales.  Friendly and comfortable surroundings.  Lounge and bar area.

Has Sky sports and live entertainment during the week.
