The Talisman, Newport
Submitted by PubsCymru on
At one time known as the Isca Inn but renamed the Talisman in 1961. A locals friendly public house with a relatively small bar but premises does have an upstairs function room along with a further three floors for accommodation.
It was nearly completely destroyed by fire in November 1949 and it was the rapid response of the Fire Brigade which saved the Talisman from total destruction.
It is said the Talisman is named after three pubs:
- Tal for Talbot
- Is for Isca
- Man for the Mechanics Arms
We may never know?
