Castle Hotel, Barry
Submitted by PCE on
Located in Jewel Street and built in 1898 during the town's boom era with dock developments. Originally built for the dock workers and had 38 bedrooms of which none are used today. Original entrance to Hotel is now blocked up and built from local Jurassic limestone. Windows and doors have cream sandstone facings.
Many original features remain intact including etched glass windows, while marble fireplace and ornate plaster-work on ceiling. Wooden staircase leads to upstairs function room.
A local community public house but unfortunatley under the threat of closure in 2012 / 13
