Ye Olde Castle Inn, Caergwrle

The Ye Olde Castle Inn stands on the edge of Caergwrle and dates back to at least the early 18^th century.  There is a date stone bearing the date 1732 and the initials RI EI.  In its early days the inn had a thatched roof and directly opposite stood a small gaol.  The inn has always been popular with travellers and visitors with its proximity to the main road.

From 1871 John Moore and later his wife Sarah were the landlords for over 30 years.  Like many landlords of their generation they supplemented his income by farming 14 acres of land.  Mrs Moore is accredited with catering for Mr and Mrs Gladstone when they visited Caergwrle.
