Oakley Arms, Maentwrog

One of the best known hostelries in north Wales and dating back to the 16th century.  The Oakley Arms is a Grade II listed building located in the heart of Snowdonia and an excellent location for tourists, anglers and motorists. 
For a long time the hotel was closely linked to the large Oakley estate.  Parts of the building date back to the 1600s and at one time known as the Tan y Bwlch Inn.  The present hotel dates from the 1700s and at one time or another has been used as a court house and police station.  During the 1840s it was renamed the Oakley Arms partially in honour of the estate.  Its distinctive crest has been a symbol of the hotel since the nineteenth century which means ‘I’m cautious but I do not fear’
