Duke of Wellington, Cowbridge

Formerly known as the Black Horse but changed its name owing to the Duke’s stopovers on his way to visit his great friend General Picton in Carmarthen.

Recorded as having a brewhouse in 1662.  Up to around 1850 horse drawn coaches ran from the establishment.  With the coming of the car the Duke appeared in the AA and Michelin handbooks even catering for the chauffeur for a charge of 12s which covered his room and three meals.

Reputedly haunted by a grey lady.

Refurbished late 2011
